A regional logistics customer chooses GeoCo for its new depot platform

GeoCo has been appointed by a regional logistics customer to design and build the retaining walls and earthworks for a new distribution depot on a sloping site in Selangor. The appointment follows a competitive tender in which our team proposed an EC Geoblock solution in place of conventional reinforced concrete walls.

The challenge

The site falls several metres from one boundary to the other, and the customer needs a large, level platform for warehouses and heavy vehicle movements. A conventional cantilever wall would have required deep foundations, a long construction period and a hard, grey finish next to a residential area.

Our proposal

  • Geogrid-reinforced EC Geoblock walls up to the full platform height, built from the formation level up without heavy cranage.
  • Free-draining block cells to control groundwater behind the wall during the wet season.
  • Hydroseeding of the planted block faces so the walls green over within a few months.
  • Inclinometers and settlement markers to monitor the platform during and after construction.

Why the customer chose GeoCo

The customer told us that two things made the difference: a shorter programme, because EC Geoblock walls go up quickly with a small crew, and the confidence of dealing with one team for design, supply, installation and monitoring. Work starts next month and we look forward to sharing progress photos.
